Giving with Gratitude

Giving with Gratitude

Jeanne Campbell recently shared with the School that she and her late husband, Mr. David Campbell '64, have made a provision for Saint James School in their will.

David and Jeanne were childhood friends and so Jeanne knew all about Saint James School as David made his way from the Third Form to graduation in 1964. Eventually they were married and built a life together. Over the years, David would often remark that he owed much of his success to his time at Saint James. The School formed him intellectually, physically, and morally, and fully prepared him for life as an adult. Just as important, Jeanne saw the lifelong friendships that David enjoyed with his classmates. The Campbells made frequent trips back to campus for class reunions and alumni events. These trips reinforced David's feelings and helped to solidify Jeanne's understanding that Saint James School was a special place.

David and Jeanne did their best to support Saint James when they could. Though they weren't able to give every year, when they could, they gave a little more. So, when they reworked their wills many years later, it seemed only natural that David and Jeanne would choose to take a portion of their estate and set it aside for Saint James School. When asked about why she and David had made this choice, Jeanne said, "Saint James has its eye on the prize - educating the WHOLE student. The faculty has a commitment to producing responsible adults in every aspect of their lives, mind, body, soul; and the self-discipline to carry these lessons with them into the larger world."

Since David's passing in 2015, Jeanne has continued to enthusiastically support Saint James School. Jeanne describes her decision to support Saint James in this way as being "…about giving out of gratitude. Saint James made [David] the man he became, and he became a very important part of my life." When contemplating the future of Saint James School, Jeanne says only, "I hope they are able to keep up the good work! It's working really well, and I hope that it will continue."

Because of the generosity and foresight of David, Jeanne, and the other members of the Fountain Rock Society, Saint James is positioned to continue its mission of creating leaders for good in the world for generations to come.
